Vincent Gan
Assistant Professor
National University of Singapore
The Robotics and Artificial Intelligence for Built Environment (RAIS4BE) Lab is overseen by Dr Vincent Gan. Dr Gan’s research focuses on robotic scanning and building information modelling (BIM) by integrating LiDAR, image-based sensing, and semantic AI algorithms with mobile robotic platforms for automated 3D scanning, followed by high-precision BIM reconstruction and semantic augmentation of buildings or infrastructures. He is also interested in new computational modelling and design methods that couple BIM with AI for structural optimisation.
He was listed among the Top 2% Scientists Worldwide by Stanford University/Elsevier in 2022 and 2023. He is PI and Co-PI for S$2.8 million grants, including National Research Foundation under AI Singapore Programme and Land Transport Authority. He has published 80+ academic papers in leading civil engineering journals such as Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Automation in Construction, Applied Energy and Advanced Engineering Informatics, as well as in major conferences like International Symposium on Automation and Robotics in Construction and International Conference on Computing in Civil Engineering. His work has been cited over 4,200 times on Google Scholar with one highly cited paper in ESI. He has filed one provisional patent and four technology and invention disclosures related to robotic scanning and Scan2BIM. He has received several awards, including the Structural Excellence Award by HKIE and the OpenBIM/OpenGIS Grand Award by buildingSMART (HK). Dr Gan is dedicated to developing innovative pedagogy for teaching digital building technologies and has been recognised with College Teaching Excellence Award at NUS.
