Dr Gan is an Assistant Professor at the College of Design and Engineering, National University of Singapore. He is currently leading the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence for Built Environment (RAIS4BE) Lab and serves as the Director of the Centre for Digital Building Technology. He is a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and an Editor of Developments in the Built Environment (Elsevier, JCR Top 10%).

Dr Gan was listed among the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University and Elsevier (Career-long and Single-year, 2023–2025). He has served as PI and Co-PI on several research grants funded by AI Singapore (AISG), the Singapore Land Transport Authority through the Land Transport Innovation Fund, the Public Utilities Board through the Coastal Protection and Flood Management Research Programme, as well as several industry-funded research projects. He has published more than 100 papers in international journals, including Automation in Construction, Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Applied Energy, and Advanced Engineering Informatics, as well as at major conferences such as the International Symposium on Automation and Robotics in Construction and the International Conference on Computing in Civil Engineering. His work has received more than 6,500 citations. His research has also resulted in multiple invention disclosures related to robotic sensing, Scan-to-BIM, and digital twins of buildings and infrastructure. Dr Gan is dedicated to developing innovative pedagogy for teaching digital building technologies and has been recognised with College Teaching Excellence Award at NUS.
